Memphis City Council votes unanimously for Judge Bernice Bouie Donald Street

Burch, Porter and Johnson, PLLC is honored to commemorate the naming of Judge Bernice Bouie Donald Street. The Memphis City Council unanimously moved and approved the resolution renaming the section of Front Street between Poplar Avenue and Beale during its July 9, 2024, meeting. The firm held a reception on Thursday July 11th to mark the occasion. Honored guests included:  Mayor Paul Young, TN Supreme Court Chief Justice Holly Kirby, Former Mayor A.C. Wharton amongst many other dignitaries of the Memphis legal community.

The City will officially unveil the Judge Bernice Bouie Donald Street placard this Fall, after its installation. Front Street was chosen for its rich cultural heritage and historical import, which befits Judge Donald’s own legacy of service.

As BPJ Partner Nathan Bicks remarked during the Council meeting, it is because of Judge Donald that we can celebrate the ascension of other minority jurists for whom she has paved the way. This sentiment was shared by the Honorable Judge Andre Mathis who, speaking to the Council, remarked that he currently holds Judge Donald’s former seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Judge Donald is a barrier-breaking jurist whose storied career Burch, Porter & Johnson, PLLC is honored to be a part of. Judge Donald currently offers arbitration, mediation, appellate advisory, moot court, and mock trial services.
