“I wish I could say that racism and prejudice were only distant memories….In the chill climate in which we live, we must go against the prevailing wind. We must dissent from the indifference. We must dissent from the apathy. We must dissent from the fear, the hatred and the mistrust… We must dissent because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better.”—Thurgood Marshall
We, individually and collectively, at Burch Porter & Johnson, PLLC, refuse to be silent while systemic injustices, prejudices, and racism persist.
We refuse to be apathetic towards the issues that have driven millions to the streets in protest throughout the world and, especially, in our city where African-Americans have marched, protested, and boycotted to obtain the most basic human rights.
We refuse to be indifferent at a time when institutional racism plagues our nation, causing wealth disparities, educational inequity, and poverty among people of color.
We refuse to allow the fear and hatred that took the lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others to persist in our society.
We refuse to only make statements and offer thoughts and prayers to placate those who have borne the weight of inequality, while failing to speak the unarmed truth about racial injustice and take decisive action.
We refuse to rest on our past victories with issues involving social justice when the same legacies of racism and bigotry still exist today. Now is the time for more than platitudes and statements about change. Now is the time for America to do better. Burch, Porter & Johnson, PLLC, joins the world, our clients, and our peers in standing with African-Americans in the fight for equality and justice. We challenge you to stand with us.
